FREE Burger Day

I just want to say that this was the best day ever. Free burgers. What can be better? We had literally thousands of Illinois State University students show up today in order to claim their free burger. We want to thank you again ISU for voting Meatheads as best burger!

With love,

Seriously. Go and help an old lady cross the street. Call your mom just to tell her you love her. Open the door for that lady with a million kids. Then tell us about it. Tag your Twitter post with the hashtag #meatheadsact or post your pledge on or Facebook wall. For every pledge we will donate .25 to Aspire.

Help us do great things for great people.

Beer not your style? How about the classic root beer?! Yum. I found this great site http://biology.clc.uc.edu/fankhauser/cheese/rootbeer_jn0.htm that shows exactly how to make it.

Materials:

-2  liter plastic soda bottle with lid

-funnel

-1 cup of table sugar

-1 tablespoon of Zatarains's Root Beer Extract (can be found here: http://www.simplycajun.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=271)

-A case of 12 glass bottles (if you want, you do not have to)

-¼ teaspoon of powdered baker’s yeast

-Water

Instructions:

-Add to the liter bottle in sequence with funnel: Sugar; yeast

-Next shake up the bottle in order to mix the ingredients

-Add 1 tablespoon root beer abstract with funnel to the mix

-Fill the bottle halfway with fresh, cool drinking water

-Swirl to dissolve ingredients

-Fill the rest of the bottle with water, but leave about an inch of head space then put on the cap securely

-Place at room temperature for 3-4 days until the bottle feels hard to a forceful squeeze.

-Move to a cool place

Again, there is a kit online for this if you want to go the easy route. I found it here:  http://bit.ly/dUShAQ

Also, if you want to try a different recipe, I found a website that has quite a few different options: http://www.gourmetrootbeer.com/recipes.html

Obviously for this one you have to be of age, but it looks like fun and I am actually thinking about doing this for my parents this year. It is a lot cheaper than I thought it would be and it looks like fun to do. If you would like to see the website where I got this from here it is: http://eartheasy.com/eat_homebrew.htm. They give awesome directions on how to make your own brew.

Materials (and prices of each)

-10 gallon “food grade” plastic pail with lid (Around $12)

-Siphon hose, 74” length of 5/16” “food grade” vinyl tubing ($2.00)

-Hose clamp for siphon ($1)

-Twelve 2-liter plastic soda bottles with lids

-Hydrometer ($8) You can choose not to have a hydrometer by just taste-testing the beer when you feel it is done, but the hydrometer gives an accurate reading for when the beer is ready

-Thermometer

-Large pot or turkey roaster

-40 oz Malt extract (ranges from $5-$20 depending on what brand)

-1 tsp brewers yeast

-6-7 cups white sugar or 8-9 cups of corn sugar (corn sugar is preferred)

These ingredients should make between 65-70 bottles of beer. To find directions on how to make the beer, go to this link: http://eartheasy.com/eat_homebrew.htm. Like I said, they have great step-by-step directions that make it easy to make and it only takes 6-10 days for the finished product!

For an easy way to do it, here is a couple different kits I found online:

Sears “Mr. Deluxe Beer Brewing kit” $26.99 http://bit.ly/gpA2sh

True Brew Able Ale Homebrew Ingredient Kit $28.99 http://bit.ly/dUShAQ
